An exhibition that aims to broaden and contribute to cultural memory.
The exhibition titled "Arquivo de Ilustração Portuguesa: Transformações e Tendências Contemporâneas" (Portuguese Illustration Archive: Contemporary Transformations and Trends) aims to enhance and contribute to cultural memory.
This initiative is grounded in the technological, social, cultural, and academic advancements observed in the final decades of the 20th century. It seeks to investigate and archive the history of illustration in Portugal, reflecting the diversity of proposals and creators.
Featuring 84 works by over 40 artists, the exhibition documents the evolution of Portuguese illustration in recent decades. Curated by José Saraiva, this exhibition will debut on 3 May at Casa do Design in Matosinhos and will be accessible to the public until 30 September.
Presented for the first time at Casa do Design as part of the Rede Portuguesa de Arte Contemporânea (RPAC), this exhibition is a segment of the Portuguese Illustration Archive project. This initiative has emerged from a collaborative application to DGArtes, submitted by Casa do Design, Centro de Arte Oliva, Centro de Artes de Águeda, and Centro de Artes | Caldas da Rainha.
The Portuguese Illustration Archive is an evolving repository that remains open to the integration of new works that represent illustration in Portugal. Beyond the exhibition itself, this project encompasses a parallel program, a publication, and an online directory, all of which play a crucial role in the preservation and extension of cultural memory.
